IPR, Ghana Inaugurates Students Chapter at Central University
The Institute of Public Relations (IPR), Ghana, has officially inaugurated its Student Chapter at
Central University, Miotso Campus—strengthening efforts to connect academic training with
professional Public Relations practice in Ghana.
The programme was attended by Faculty and students of the Department of Communications
and Media Studies. Faculty members present were Dr. Marian Tsegah, Mr. Kofi Akpabli and Mr.
Worlanyo Afenyo.
Executive Committee members and secretariat staff of IPR, Ghana also attended the
programme.
Dr. Marian Tsegah, gave a welcome address in which she commended IPR, Ghana’s continued
commitment to student development. She encouraged students to embrace the opportunity to
engage actively with the Institute and pursue excellence in their academic and professional
journeys.
The IPR, Ghana President and CEO of Strategic Communications Africa (Stratcomm Africa),
Ms. Esther A. N. Cobbah, in a keynote address emphasized the critical importance of
Relevance and Value in Public Relations. She said, “We must define our publics and bring them
value. If we fail to do that, our communication loses relevance.” She also advised students to
adopt new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) responsibly—enhancing their
communication skills while remaining grounded in their Ghanaian identity and values.
Ms. Cobbah went on to swear in the following executives; Alex Adjei Sarpong(President), Sena
Afi Senanu (Vice President), Mary Mensah (General Secretary), Constance Maame Ama Seal
(Public Relations Officer), Dorcas Yaa Nukpeta (Organizer) and Francisca Frimpomaa Osafo
(Financial secretary).
The event featured a spoken-word performance by Mr. Evans Adu-Gyamfi, which highlighted
the communicative power of Ghanaian fabrics. Mr. Akpabli, a senior lecturer also gave his
remarks where he expressed his delight towards the beginning of a new IPR, Ghana Students
Chapter at the Central University and charged executives to lead and serve with diligence,
integrity and a great sense of responsibility.
In closing, Mr. Donald Gwira, Vice President of IPR, Ghana reminded students that relevance is
a foundation for recognition. He urged them to actively participate in the Institute’s programmes,
develop their leadership skills, and commit to the highest standards of ethics and
professionalism in their future practice.
The chapter now joins a growing community of student groups championing professionalism in
PR across tertiary institutions in Ghana.
