A delegation of the Institute of Public Relations, Ghana (IPR Ghana) led by its President, Ms. Esther A. N. Cobbah, and the President of the African Public Relations Association (APRA), Arik Karani, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Government Communication, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, at the Flagstaff House.
The IPR, Ghana delegation reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to advancing public relations (PR) in the country while holding productive discussions with the Minister on the role of PR in governance. The delegation also advocated for the swift passage of the IPR Bill to further enhance the Professional standing of the IPR.
The delegation outlined plans to commemorate PR Week and PR Day in July. The Minister was also informed that IPR Ghana will host an international IPR, Ghana, APRA, IPRA knowledge-sharing conference on October 3, 2025, in collaboration with the International Public Relations Association (IPRA) and the African Public Relations Association (APRA). This precedes the prestigious IPRA Golden World Awards, also to be held in Accra, Ghana, on the evening of October 3, 2025.
The President of APRA, Arik Karani, on his part, highlighted PR’s growing influence across Africa. He extended an invitation to the Minister to attend a Ministerial Roundtable during APRA’s 50th-anniversary celebrations in Mombasa from June 9-13, 2025, where discussions will focus on strengthening government communication and enhancing Africa’s global narrative. Arik also referred to APRA’s support for key initiatives, including the African Union’s Digital Communication Strategy, the Online Safety Act, and the Africa Digital Act, emphasizing the need to combat social bullying and enhance digital governance.
Hon. Felix Ofosu Kwakye, Minister for Government Communication, acknowledged the critical intersection between government communication and PR professionals. He highlighted the evolution of government communication structures—for example, from traditional press releases to digital media—and emphasized the need for continuous training for practitioners and adaptation to emerging communication tools.
The Minister reaffirmed the commitment of the government of H. E. President John Dramani Mahama to supporting PR practitioners and indicated the President’s dedication, as a member of IPR Ghana, to ensuring the success of the upcoming IPRA, IPR Ghana, and APRA conference as well as the Gala in Accra in October this year.
